Mulsanne Insurance Company Limited (MICL) is part of a vertically integrated insurance group, which manufactures and sells annual motor insurance and short-term motor insurance via both in-group distribution entities and third-party distribution partners. MICL’s specialism is in providing insurance policies in the higher premium section of the annual UK motor market, as well as being a leading underwriter in the short-term UK motor market.

Role overview

Based in the MICL Actuarial Team, this role will be an integral part of continuing to enhance our pricing and underwriting capabilities. You will be working in a fast-paced environment, within a small, highly motivated, and technically capable team. You will be developing processes and creating proposals for improvements at high pace under the guidance of a pricing actuary, but with a broad remit and significant freedom to effect change. There will be excellent opportunities to grow your skillset, working alongside the Head of Actuarial, experienced pricing actuaries and with exposure to the MICL CEO. There will be opportunities to work on broader actuarial topics such as reserving and reinsurance.

Key responsibilities

• Development, review, and refinement of risk pricing models across annual and short-term products. Including within our bespoke, in-house Python modelling pipeline.

• Supporting the management of the MICL portfolio through production and review of incisive MI to understand business performance.

• Using MI to proactively manage risks and identify opportunities.

• Proactively seeking out, analysing, implementing, and monitoring new pricing and underwriting projects to improve account performance and meet business targets.

• Development and maintenance of data flows to ensure robust and accurate analysis and monitoring.

• Ensuring strong levels of governance and control are in place and maintained.

• Clearly communicating results and trends relating to your assigned areas of ownership.

Skills and experience

• 2+ years of personal lines experience, preferably in motor pricing

• The successful candidate will be highly motivated, with an ambition and drive to effect change within a fast-moving commercial environment. Must have a thirst for responsibility and accountability.

• Strong commercial skills with the ability to understand the broader implications of their work.

• Ability to adapt quickly to changing dynamics, to thrive in unfamiliar situations and develop new skills.

• Strong working knowledge of data manipulation, visualisation and modelling within Python and R are desirable.

• Understanding of the primary ML techniques with an ability to critically interrogate and communicate model results to both technical and non-technical audience.

• First Class or 2.1 Honours Degree in a mathematical, scientific or data related field
