envision a world where everyone—no matter who they are or where they live—has control over their bodies and can decide if, when, and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child. Position
The Senior Director of UX Research will be responsible for conducting research to guide product and program decisions organization wide. The Senior Director of UX Research will be a thought leader across the organization in the domain of user research and will consult across the organization to ensure all staff learn and implement design thinking in their work. They will work with executive leadership and program stakeholders to identify research topics and to understand
business goals, user needs, and project requirements. The Senior Director of UX Research will design and execute primary user research across all phases of product development, using a diverse range of methodologies, to shape product strategy.
The Senior Director of UX Research will report to the VP of Digital Products and Education.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the VP, Digital Products and Education, the Senior Director of UX Research’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Lead and execute overall research strategy for development of user-driven digital products.
- Create and conduct research studies including writing detailed research plans, generating
- hypotheses, identifying key research questions, selecting appropriate methodologies,
- and leading recruitment of participants.
- Consult with executive leadership and project stakeholders to define business goals, user needs, and project requirements.
- Evaluate and gather data utilizing a range of methodologies including user interviews, surveys, focus groups, contextual inquiry, usability studies, card sorts, tree tests, diary studies, A/B tests, site intercepts, and others.
- Create discussion guides for interviews and focus groups, demonstrating sensitivity to participants’ backgrounds and current circumstances.
- Conduct message testing to assess how comprehensible, actionable, and appropriate content is for its intended audience.
- Create personas and journey maps, conduct competitive analysis, and collaborate with designers in creating wireframes and interactive prototypes for testing.
- Evaluate, analyze, and synthesize research findings into actionable insights and recommendations for product leads, executive leadership, and other stakeholders across the organization.
- Establish and convene a youth advisory board to help understand the needs and preferences
- of our priority populations.
- Act as a strategic thought partner on interdisciplinary teams across the organization, helping staff learn design thinking principles and user research best practices.
- Collaborate with project and product management on creating and executing product timelines.
- Shape product strategy using research insights as well as knowledge of UX design conventions and best practices. Collaborate with Research and Evaluation staff on the evaluation of digital products, the YouR Health Survey, and other projects, and ensure coordination of research activities across departments.
- Promote revenue generation by conducting and synthesizing research and packaging insights
- to supplement grant applications and other revenue generation activities.
- Identify and manage vendors as needed to support research activities, including content
- creators, UX and visual designers, and project managers.
- Collaborate with product and research colleagues at partner organizations as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience, 5-7 of which should be experience designing, conducting, and synthesizing user research for complex digital products, required.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Experience building digital products using a human-centered design approach, preferably in
- the sexual and reproductive health space.
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in health education and health communication.
- A proven track record of shaping product strategy by generating and socializing actionable
- research insights.
- Experience applying a health equity lens in making product decisions.
- Strong leadership skills.
- A learning mindset, with a demonstrated willingness to seek continual feedback in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with a dynamic, fast-moving team, completing multiple tasks simultaneously and adapting to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Demonstrated track record of empathy and sensitivity in conducting research.
- Ability to successfully and positively work collaboratively to complete assignments and deliver results.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Ability to work successfully in a fully remote environment.
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
Salary and Benefits
The Senior Director of UX Research is an exempt position. Salary is based on market factors and individual experience and abilities. The starting salary range for this position is $124,100 to $142,900.
