About the Role
In collaboration with the finance team, the position ensures accounting and financial management and grant management of EU funded projects, EU Consortium and programme/project funded by other donors comply with and adhere to legal, statutory and donor requirements
Work closely with Finance colleagues to ensure robust financial controls and efficient processes are in place to support the deliverance of the CIVICUS strategy. Under the direction of their line manager, the finance and grants officer is responsible for grants and project finances including budgeting/forecasting, planning, accounting duties and monitoring expenditure, financial reporting, grant management, partner capacity building and oversight in compliance with EU and other donor rules and regulations.
The finance and Grants officer will work closely with the program teams to improve the quality of grant management and reporting, by ensuring that internal information on all our projects is up to date and accurate, enabling the provision of timely information to donors.
The role will also support month/year end financial processes as well as project and statutory audits.
Key Requirements
- Minimum 4 years’ proven experience in a financial officer working with a financial/accounting experience in a major international organisation/NGO
- Knowledge of EU project financial and contractual procedures
- Experience in reporting and accounting in the not-for-profit sector, including donor reporting
- Good knowledge of fund accounting including reporting requirements of major Bi-lateral agencies
- Experience of budget preparation and oversight
- Strong accounting skills and experience including management of general ledger, journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Business spoken and written English is required.
- Attention to detail with great organisational skills
- Sound analytical and technical skills in financial accounting and grant management
- Computer literate: MS Office with an excellent understanding of Excel and how to design clear and user-friendly reports. Experience of using computerised accounting software and an aptitude for systems improvements and developments
- Ability to act confidentially
- Honesty and integrity, including desire to accept ownership and accountability, whilst getting things done well and meeting challenging deadlines
- Good interpersonal and relationship management skills with ability to work both as an individual and as part of a team
