The Director, Global Medical Affairs KOL Engagement plays a pivotal role in our global organization infrastructure supporting the objectives of the Global Medical Affairs team by way of leading KOL Engagement activities outside of the US. This individual is responsible for the scientific exchange of information and education of global opinion leaders who reside outside of the United States (approximately 50 KOLs) involved with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Sarepta’s investigational therapeutics and product pipeline. This position is responsible for reporting global insights, global reporting and advice to inform and advance Medical Affairs global strategy, pipeline development and informing US launch preparation from a global standpoint. The Director is responsible for identifying innovative approaches to enhance external scientific exchange and supporting the development and execution of key strategies across the Global Medical Affairs team. The Director works closely with cross-functional partners on the Opinion Leader Programming team based out of the US to establish long term Disease Area strategies with Disease Area Global Key Opinion Leaders in the Neuromuscular space and by collaborating with Scientific Partners across the Sarepta Portfolio.

Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Implement KOL engagement strategy ex-US, including KOL identification, to align with Global Medical Affairs strategy and in partnership with the global opinion leader programming team based in the US to align with Sarepta’s global KOL engagement strategy
  • Leadership role in medical education for healthcare professionals through proactive communication of scientific data as well as scientific exchange of information during routine interactions; this includes partnering with the EAP team as needs arise that require MD level support to maintain or improve relationships with KOLs that interface with our extended access program
  • Provide scientific training to support ongoing clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, and registries consistent with company objectives and regulations
  • In consultation with clinical operations, visit potential sites to assess their capabilities regarding ability to conduct various forms of clinical research
  • High quality presentations of scientific data to health care professionals in various settings, including advisory boards, investigator meetings, and other appropriate venues to enhance product / disease state knowledge if any gaps exist as it relates to coverage by our development partner(s)
  • Must maintain knowledge of applicable research and literature
  • May respond to unsolicited requests for information about unapproved products or uses, or off-label information
  • Consistent record of building collaborative relationships with peers and teams, helping cross-functional teams address strategic opportunities and solve problems across a matrixed organization
  • Captures ex-US KOL insights and competitive intelligence
  • Completes administrative duties in a timely fashion
  • Other related duties as required

Desired Education And Skills

  • MD, PhD, PharmD, or NP/PA preferred with clinical practice and extensive strategic experience
  • Extensive experiences in Medical Affairs with Excellent knowledge of Medical Affairs processes and methods
  • Familiarity with and track record of complying with industry and regulatory compliance guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, in collaborative team environment and in complex matric organizations
  • Existing Neurology / Pediatric experience and relationships is a plus
  • Experience and expertise in clinical trial design, interpretation of scientific data, market research, competitive intelligence tools, drug information systems, and medical marketing strategies
  • High integrity, sense of urgency, ability to recognize time sensitivity
  • Experience in launching rare disease product(s) or complex specialty products is ideal.
  • Must be a self-starter with a strong drive, creativity, knowledge, and rapport building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to operate with ambiguity, exceptional listening skills, strong presentation skills with an ability to rapidly adjust the sophistication of the presentation to the audience, good negotiating and influencing skills
  • Ability to travel up to 60%, including international travel
