The role:
The Digital Communications Specialist will generate quality content that will attract and inform our campaign targets, donors, and other relevant audiences. This person will work with internal stakeholders to develop short-and long-term strategies for digital engagement via Oceana in Europe’s web and email, ensuring integration with social media channels and including the research and development, maintenance, and implementation of content, as well as the continual monitoring and evaluation of these digital communications channels. The Digital Communications Specialist will prepare videos and other visual assets in line with Oceana’s branding and communications goals.
Main Responsibilities:
Maintain and enhance Oceana in Europe’s website.
- Provide ongoing updates to the website, including regular creation of contents, revision of existing ones, and upload of campaign deliverables.
- Ensure consistent use of SEO, enhance navigation and use Oceana HQ plugins and improvements.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations, identify bugs, and secure solutions in cooperation with the IT department.
- Increase traffic and visitors engagement; provide metrics for board and donor reporting.
- Ensure ongoing collaboration with communications staff and quick assistance with media releases.
- Provide assistance to campaign staff regarding the maintenance of external websites.
Implement a digital marketing and engagement strategy.
- Build strategies to increase the database of online followers, put together e-mails with updates of Oceana campaigns and achievements, and use relevant calls to action to keep our followers engaged.
- Design and implement a SEM strategy to deliver traffic to the website and engage Internet users.
- Support fundraising efforts as needed by the development team, by creating donation-related web contents, re-targeting ads, mailings, etc.
Deliver audiovisual assets.
- Edit short videos for the web and other uses (social media, events), leveraging footage from Oceana’s expeditions and other activities, and ensuring consistency with Oceana branding.
- Take photos and film Oceana events and staff as needed.
- Create digital assets such as small infographics, timelines, data visualisations, etc.
- Manage Oceana in Europe’s video channels, aligning them with the website, social media and digital marketing goals.
Candidate Requirements:
Education and work experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or web content certification.
- 5 years’ experience in creating content and managing webs.
- Knowledge of CMS, SEO and web analytics. Familiarity with WordPress is a plus.
- Experience in SEM, online engagement, and newsletters.
- Video editing skills. Knowledge of Adobe suite is a plus.
- Experience overseeing web projects developed by local agencies.
- English level: C2. Fluency in other EU official languages is a plus.
Skills and knowledge:
- Strong team player, able to work individually on a project and in a team environment.
- Excellent written communication and people skills, including ability to adapt complex information to non-specialised audiences.
- Pro-active, self-driven attitude, ability to create a contents calendar and to develop contents without the need of ongoing inputs.
- Creative attitude, open to exploring new techniques or strategies.
- Willingness to interact with people with different nationalities and backgrounds.
- Attention to detail, strong follow-through.
- Genuine interest in ocean conservation. Knowledge of environmental issues, non-profit world and/or EU policy a plus.

Oceana’s offices in Europe operate on a hybrid schedule and employees are required to work from their assigned office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, while the employees may work from home on Monday and Friday.
