Philosophy Learning and Teaching Organization

Philosophy Learning and Teaching Organization (PLATO) is seeking a part-time Administrative Coordinator to join our team. The Administrative Coordinator coordinates, oversees, and/or performs a wide variety of administrative and program support activities for PLATO. 

This is a fully remote position, which will average 10 hours per week. Compensation is $25 per hour (annual salary $13,000), with a start date of November 1, 2024. Hours will fluctuate depending on the time of year. There will be weeks that require more than 10 hours, as well as quieter weeks and holidays off.  Specific schedule negotiable, but hours should generally take place during typical 9-5 Monday to Friday working hours. 

PLATO offers unlimited PTO but no other benefits at this time.

The Administrative Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and works closely with PLATO’s staff and various board and committee members. 

PLATO is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing young people’s curiosity, critical thinking, and understanding of diverse viewpoints through philosophy and ethics programs for students and educators.

Job Responsibilities:

Administrative

  • Manage mailing list and donor and other constituent records on Bloomerang.
  • Create registration and other forms on Qgiv and WordPress.
  • Manage and respond to emails to [email protected].
  • Data, financial, and timeline tracking for programs, including education programs, grant program, and other initiatives.
  • Primary responsibility for managing PLATO’s Google Workspace account, including the calendar.
  • Assist in the management of PLATO’s website, including creating registration forms and helping to ensure that the information on the website is accurate and up to date.
  • Support organization’s communications with donors, Partner Organizations, and other constituents.
  • Support board committees, attending board and some committee meetings, as needed.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings on Zoom.
  • Manage other administrative organizational details.

Program

  • Manage registration and communications for PLATO’s public online programs.
  • Host and provide technical support for all webinars, roundtables, and other online programs.
  • Maintain applications, registrations, and evaluations for PLATO’s workshops, classes, and fellowships.
  • Manage submissions for PLATO’s grants program, case writing project, its journal Questions, and other programs.
  • Create and compile materials for various programs, as needed.

Outreach and Development

  • Work with the Development Director to ensure effective management of PLATO communications with donors and other stakeholders, including direct email communications with donors.
  • Help create and distribute promotional materials.

Job Qualifications:

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and skill and experience with Google Drive, Bloomerang, Qgiv, WordPress, MailChimp, and/or other database programs (for example, QuickBooks) 
  • B.A. or equivalent experience
  • Special consideration given to those with experience
    • Working with nonprofit organizations
    • In graphic design
