Philosophy Learning and Teaching Organization

PLATO is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing young people’s curiosity, critical thinking, and understanding of diverse viewpoints through philosophy and ethics programs for students and educators. With a range of educational initiatives designed to stimulate critical thinking and ethical reasoning for elementary, middle, and high school students, PLATO is committed to expanding the impact and accessibility of philosophy education.

The Grants and Sponsorships Coordinator will be the point person for cultivating corporate sponsors, beginning with sponsorships for PLATO’s next biennial conference in June 2025, and for researching potential grant opportunities and drafting initial grant applications. 

The position will average 10 hours per week with compensation of $30 per hour/$15,600 annually. Hours will fluctuate depending on busier times throughout the year. There will be weeks that require more than 10 hours, as well as quieter weeks and holidays off. Specific schedule negotiable, but hours should generally take place during typical 9-5 Monday to Friday working hours.

Job Responsibilities:

Sponsorships

  • Develop and execute a fundraising plan for corporate sponsorships, beginning with cultivating sponsors for the June 2025 Biennial Conference.
  • Identify, cultivate, and nurture relationships with existing and potential PLATO Partners, including businesses, universities, schools, organizations, and foundations.

Grants

  • Develop a list of grant prospects, including foundations, corporations, and government grants.
  • Lead role in drafting initial grant applications and coordinating the submission of all grant application materials.

Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with staff and PLATO leadership to align development strategies with the organization’s goals and strategic plan.
  • Contribute to organizational planning and budgeting processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • At least two years of experience in a nonprofit environment, with proven success in obtaining grant and corporate sponsorship funding.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team within a small organization.
  • High energy, enthusiasm, and a deep commitment to PLATO’s mission of promoting philosophy education.
