MarGrady Research

MarGrady Research is a small, mission-driven, education consulting firm. We provide research, data analysis, and policy advice to school districts, foundations, and other education organizations. Recently, we have helped a state measure the degree of segregation in its public schools, developed an annual budget for an urban district, and analyzed the impact of a new school choice process. MarGrady Research combines the analytical rigor of academia with the client service of a top consulting firm to address socially important issues in public education. See more at www.margrady.com

We are looking to hire a full- or part-time education data analyst to support one or more projects. The analyst will be responsible for collecting and managing publicly-available and confidential client data, conducting analysis using various software platforms (e.g. R, Excel), and creating visualizations of the data in various forms (e.g. Tableau dashboards, PowerPoint graphs, etc.). They may also conduct research and write policy briefs, help develop financial models for school districts, and attend meetings with clients. The analyst will be working with a small team of 2-3 creative, hard-working people who are interested in conducting research, analyzing data, and improving public education. The position can be remote or in-person, with at least occasional meetings at MarGrady Research’s office on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

  • Data Analysis: Use R (or similar software) to clean, analyze, and interpret educational data, including student performance metrics, enrolment trends, and program effectiveness. Develop and apply statistical models to derive actionable insights.
  • Data Visualization: Create dynamic and engaging visualizations using Tableau (or similar software) to present educational data findings clearly to stakeholders such as educators, administrators, and policymakers.
  • Research & Reporting: Prepare reports, policy briefs, and dashboards that provide insights into educational trends, student performance, and program evaluations. Communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Data Management: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of educational data. Develop and maintain databases and data systems specific to educational contexts.
  • Collaboration: Work with educational institutions, program managers, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver tailored analytical solutions.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a quantitative field (or extensive quantitative experience outside of your degree)
  • Experience & Technical Skills: Proven experience analyzing education data using R and developing visualizations using Tableau. Expertise with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint a plus. Experience working in public education as a teacher, administrator, or policy analyst a plus
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data findings in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Growth Mindset: Interest in improving one’s ability to analyze large datasets, program in statistical software packages, and create compelling visualizations.
