Senior Data Officer

Terms of employment: Contract for one year, renewal by mutual agreement

Consultancy Fees and benefits: INR 86,714 per month (if India-based), we will adjust the consultancy fees based on location if the successful candidate is based outside of India

Language Requirement: English (preferably Hindi as well)

About Fortify Health

Fortify Health has a vision for a healthier world where everyone has the micronutrients they need to survive and thrive. We work toward this by enabling access to micronutrient-rich wheat flour (chakki atta) to reduce and prevent iron deficiency anaemia. 

Fortify Health operates through three flagship programmes:

1. Open Market: Support millers to cost-neutrally fortify chakki atta in the open market. We provide our mill partners with the equipment, materials and training that they need to produce high quality fortified chakki atta. 
2. Partnerships: Work closely with both state government and quasi-governmental organisations to support them to provide fortified chakki atta to their beneficiaries.
3. Research, Monitoring & Evaluation: Monitor the quality of the fortified atta that we support our partners to produce and conduct evaluation studies to understand the impact and effectiveness of our programme.

Position Overview

Fortify Health believes in making data-driven decisions. In order to make these decisions, it is critical that we have high-quality available to decision makers. The Senior Data Officer will play a critical role in ensuring an efficient data collection system, accurate data processing and transformation, and analysis of this data across the organisation. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, and design, implement, and maintain data systens that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities and activities (for Senior Data Officer) 

Data Management

• Design, implement, and oversee an efficient data collection system to ensure accurate and timely acquisition of data across the organization.
• Conduct regular reviews of data quality to identify and rectify discrepancies, anomalies, or inaccuracies in the collected data.
• Lead efforts in data transformation, applying appropriate processes to cleanse, aggregate, and structure data for analytical purposes.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve pipeline issues in a timely manner to minimize data processing disruptions.
• Build an understanding of the current data pipelines and optimize the pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Consolidate monitoring data and prepare periodic reports for internal use, sharing with external stakeholders like mill partners and funders, ensuring an appropriate level of anonymity and data sharing ethics
• Innovate and design mechanisms for fortification data collection and representation

Data Governance

• Oversee data security measures, including encryption, access controls, and compliance with relevant data protection regulations. Manage data platforms and storage solutions, including the selection, implementation, and optimization of databases and data warehouses. For example – SurveyCTO, CRM, etc.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications for pipeline development.
• Document data pipeline architecture, processes, and procedures for knowledge sharing and future reference.
• Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging technologies related to data engineering and pipelines.
• Support the M&E team to improve our long-term M&E strategy and related research aims

Requirements

• Qualifications – Masters’s Degree in relevant field / Course in data engineering or data management
• Familiarity with handling the monitoring and evaluation data in Development sector / Nutrition projects
• Strong knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
