Meteorologist (Consultant)

Jua is on a mission to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI) by delving deeply into physics, the universe, and their relationship with human civilization. We are operating a foundational earth systems model. Our first model is capable of predicting atmospheric physics globally, with state-of-the-art performance in comparison to existing weather models.

As we scale the model, more applications like wildfire, flood or vegetation prediction become possible. Our flagship product is an API designed for weather-dependent power and energy traders, offering superior accuracy, lower latency, and a higher refresh rate, especially during critical events like hurricanes and cyclones.

With substantial venture capital backing at a sensible valuation, our first objective will be to provide businesses and countries with several orders of magnitude better and faster weather forecasts. Our multidisciplinary team combines expertise in machine learning, physics, aerospace, data processing, and UX design to create a crucial component for a sustainable world amidst changing climate patterns and increasing extreme weather events.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Meteorologist to join our team as a consultant. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in meteorology, be proficient in Python, and possess excellent statistical and communication skills. The ability to work independently and handle complex case studies related to extreme weather events and their impact on energy markets is essential.

Responsibilities and Tasks

• Identify relevant weather extreme cases and conduct detailed meteorological case studies, particularly focusing on extreme weather events and their implications on energy markets
• Evaluate the forecast accuracy of NWP and AI weather models in selected cases using weather stations and gridded data
• Communicate complex meteorological concepts and findings to customers and non-technical audiences clearly and concisely
• Provide insights and recommendations based on weather data to support decision-making processes

Need-to-have

• Proven experience in conducting meteorological case studies and analysis
• Proficiency in Python, experience working with xarray and large zarr files (> TBs)
• Strong understanding of deterministic and probabilistic forecast error metrics and their application in meteorology
• Ability to work independently and manage projects without requiring support from developers or data engineers
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of price-relevant weather situations, particularly in the context of energy markets
• An advanced degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field

Nice-to-have

• Experience with machine learning techniques and their application in weather forecasting
• Previous experience working with energy market data and understanding its dynamics
