Payments Counsel

We’re seeking an experienced Payments Counsel with experience working in-house to join our Legal team in London, UK.

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role will be focused on providing expert advice on global payments (including regulatory and compliance assistance) together with contract drafting and negotiation. Furthermore, this role will involve maintaining and evolving the legal framework and infrastructure to support our rapid business growth.

The ideal candidate for this role is a passionate self-starter, who is looking to take on responsibility to flourish in a role like this, and has extensive experience in managing contracts (specifically drafting and negotiating all types of agreements) as well as contractual operations in a fast-paced environment, preferably in the payments industry.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • By providing complex and technical advice to all facets of the business.
  • Acting as a business enabler by supporting the business in all aspects of agreements, from developing internal strategy, through to negotiation and closing of full agreements.
  • Managing the entire flow of all contracts, including reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and execution.
  • Leading the effort to resolve the majority of client queries and concerns in contract negotiations, including collaboration with internal stakeholders on specific areas of concern.
  • Assisting with maintenance and improvements of contracts management processes and systems as well as the implementation and enforcement of contract policies.
  • Providing some administrative and other support to the General Counsel.
  • General commercial assistance, as and when required.
  • Instructing external advisors, where appropriate.

Skills you will have fine-tuned:

  • Qualified in legal practice (solicitor/barrister)
  • Extensive experience in global payments and contract management
  • Experience with data privacy laws and contracts
  • Leading customer/partner-facing negotiations, explaining standard agreement terms to counter parties and negotiating.
  • Have an excellent understanding of the impact of contract terms, compliance obligations and be able to explain contract terms to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in bringing the sales and account teams and the client to final closure on agreements, including obtaining required approvals, creating final agreements, and managing their delivery and execution.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and the challenge of managing multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing business needs.
