Who are we looking for

We are looking for a Legal Counsel reporting directly to the COO to help us reach a new level of growth.

The Legal Counsel will report to the COO and work closely with sales, product, partnerships and finance, as well as our providers and customers. This person will be a part of a small team of two and will be the Company’s primary legal advisor managing all legal and compliance affairs, contributing to immediate decisions that impact Silent Eight growth. This role will mainly provide contract analysis, advice and counsel on a wide variety of legal issues.

Key Duties

  • Advising senior internal stakeholders in sales, product and partnerships on potential legal risks that may arise in connection with the development of new features and products and providing mitigation strategies
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating confidentiality, master services, software license, maintenance, service level, data processing and other types of agreements with both clients and vendors.
  • Overseeing, managing and implementing the company’s compliance program, including drafting relevant policies of a global reach, delivering company-wide training sessions and ensuring effectiveness of the compliance controls.
  • Focusing on issues relating to privacy, contract law, intellectual property and information technology
  • Helping to manage patents, software, trademarks, innovation and our intellectual property (IP) rights management program
  • Collaborating with teams in Asia-Pacific, the UK, Europe and the United States (knowledge of the law in these jurisdictions is not required, but highly preferred).
  • Providing legal and privacy training to staff and teams.
  • Collaborating and coordinating with teams across the globe and other members of the Legal and Privacy department.

Essential Requirements

  • Excellent English language skills are essential.
  • 5-7 years of in-house or law firm experience (preferably both).
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • Familiar with and interested in IP law
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrate an interest in privacy and security matters. Knowledge of UK/EU GDPR and interest in the US and/or Asia privacy landscape will be a strong plus.
  • Ability and openness to discovering and researching laws in foreign jurisdictions.
  • You are (or intend to be) a sales enablement lawyer, which means that you:
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Have a strong business acumen and a sense of urgency, proactivity and ownership.
  • Are not afraid to support the business teams in making decisions.
  • Will go above and beyond to proactively find risk-balanced solutions before saying: “Sorry, this is not going to work”.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with SaaS and on-premise master services agreements and license, software development, maintenance and service level agreements.
  • Basics of common law (ideally in the US/UK/Singapore jurisdictions) and experience drafting common law contracts is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of how new technologies and artificial intelligence affect the modern world.
  • General experience in the banking industry and or knowledge of anti-money laundering laws and regulations
