SFAC (Strengthening Families And Children)

Are you interested in supporting a small, UK-based, international charity with big ambitions? Can you spare a few hours every month to support our small staff team and fellow trustees?

What difference will you make?

Your impact will be to mentor a dedicated member of the operational staff team suitable to your skills and experience, and support good governance and planning in the organisation. By doing so you will contribute to an organisation that has seen a 1000% growth in demand for its services in 20 years, has supported governments, NGOs, and judicial authorities establish new ways of working promoting safe family care for children. SFAC is behind many global examples of best practice in the alternative care of children, and now leads on supporting governments and judiciaries develop their practice. SFAC’s work is a partnership with the organisation who provide the services to children. We work with the adults, not the children! Our aim is to utilise the skills, knowledge and experience of a multi-national team qualified in social work, psychology and legal practice with children, to support those working with children improve their practice. By doing this we can enable more children to be and feel safe, be cared for and have their individual needs met, and a opportunity to thrive and reach their potential.

To be IT competent and be able to send, receive emails, and communicate via electronic means. To prioritize commitments and deliver support where appropriate. Be flexible and responsive and have fun! Work with a small team and respect the different skill sets within the operations and trustee team To meet deadlines. Prior knowledge of working in charity sector Knowledge of charitable law and regulation Awareness of the international issues involving social work with children Familiarity with google workspace. Understanding of “Essential Trustee” duties and requirements of trustees as set out by the Charity Commission of England and Wales

What will you be doing?

We need one trustee to compliment our seven other trustees. The trustees role will require around three to four hours a month with one trustee meeting of 3-4 hours once every two to three months online or in person. We have one in person meeting per year. The role will involve supporting the operations team and fellow trustees and we are particularly interested in those with a background or interest in communications and marketing and have international experience. We want someone to support, challenge, guide and be active in promoting the charity, supporting its growth, and ensuring it is compliant with good practice, good governance and high ambitions. We are a friendly, supportive and engaged trustee and operational team who work with each other with an impact far greater than our size. We have been a leading provider of training, support and advice in the area of children’s care and protection for over twenty years and aim to build our reach further.
